Project Elements

The Laguna Madre region as defined by this project comprises the Lower Laguna Madre of Texas (Cameron and Willacy County communities), and the northern Laguna Madre of Tamaulipas, including the counties of Matamoros, Valle Hermoso and associated coastal villages.

Drawing on the expertise and advice of a local binational advisory committee composed of local representatives from the industrial, academic, agricultural, ranching, government and fisheries sectors, coordinators are developed four key components of the project:

  • A Community Survey and Leaders Forum in Cameron and Willacy counties in Texas, and community needs analysis for the fishing villages of Mezquital and Higuerillas, on the Laguna Madre of Tamaulipas
  • Research and presentation of environmental, economic and social indicators for the binational region.
  • Our Common Future: "The Binational Laguna Madre Region"
  • Binational symposium
  • Return to Laguna Madre Home Page
